Fichayes recently reported that Barcelona is closely monitoring Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez this summer. The Catalan giants are reportedly interested in signing the Argentine talent next year.

Martínez’s impressive Premier League performances

Martínez was a key player for Manchester United last season, delivering a string of impressive performances at the heart of the defense. The Argentine player contributed two goals and two assists in 32 appearances for the Red Devils last season.

The 27-year-old also made impressive defensive contributions, completing 40 tackles, 22 blocks, 32 interceptions, and 57 clearances in the Premier League. His 89.4% pass completion rate from deep (according to fbref.com) demonstrates his exceptional ability to control the ball from deep.

His current contract with the Manchester club expires in the summer of 2027. Therefore, Barcelona could potentially sign him for a low fee next year.

Should Barcelona coach Hansi Flick sign Martinez?

Martínez is an excellent tackler, capable of precise tackles and recovering possession for his team inside his own half. He is often able to clear danger when needed and build up plays from the back.

If the Argentine prodigy can successfully transition to La Liga, he would be a perfect fit for Barcelona’s style of play. However, his inconsistent performances and injury susceptibility make him a risky option for the Catalan club next year.

Martínez would undoubtedly add strength and depth to Barcelona coach Hansi Flick’s defense. He is fully capable of competing for a first-team regular spot at Camp Nou in the coming years.

At 27, Martinez is in his prime, making him a good option for the Catalan club to consider in January or at the end of the season. He could even help Barcelona compete for major honors in the coming years. Therefore, it makes sense for Flick to select a defender with Martinez’s skills and experience next year.
