Barcelona star injured, will miss La Liga opener

Barcelona’s title defense has suffered a major blow as they will be without top scorer Robert Lewandowski in their opening match. Robert Lewandowski has confirmed a muscle injury.
The 36-year-old has a thigh strain and will miss Sunday evening’s Gamper Trophy match against Como. Midfielder Dani Olmo also underwent individual training with a minor strain, while Hansi Flick continues his preparations for the new season.
Lewandowski’s replacement at Barcelona
Lewandowski’s first choice is Ferran Torres, who played on the bench for Barcelona last season and started in the Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan and the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid. Previous reports have suggested Torres will play alongside Lewandowski this season, with the possibility of moving into the starting lineup if he outperforms the Polish striker.
Additionally, there are rumors that Olmo may be deployed as a false nine this season. Marcus Rashford has also played in midfield on several occasions and is a potential replacement for Hansi Flick. However, the striker, on loan from Manchester United, is still awaiting registration for next season, and it is currently uncertain when this will be completed.
Lewandowski to miss La Liga opener
The injury appears set to keep him out for the La Liga opener against Real Mallorca in eight days. Ara reporter Xavi Hernández Navarro explained that his injury could keep him out for a total of two weeks. This would completely rule him out of Barcelona’s La Liga campaign, and his availability for the second La Liga match against Levante on the east coast next weekend is also uncertain.
