Barcelona’s Registration Issues Remain Unresolved Despite Iñigo Martínez’s Departure

Despite reaching an agreement with defender Iñigo Martínez, Barcelona is still searching for sources of revenue or savings. The Basque defender will terminate his contract with the Catalan giants and move to Al Nasr in Saudi Arabia.

Martínez will sign a two-year contract with Al Nasr, but the contract includes a clause allowing him to leave on a free transfer next summer. According to Sport, Martínez’s net income per season in the Middle East is approximately €10 million, significantly higher than the €7 million he earned at Barcelona.

Marc-André ter Stegen’s number removed

On Thursday, Barcelona temporarily removed Marc-André ter Stegen from his captaincy and removed his No. 1 jersey from their La Liga profile on their official website. This clearly demonstrated Barcelona’s anger (whether right or wrong) at his actions and their intention to give García both the jersey number and the starting berth.

In addition, Pau Kubalci has taken over Inigo Martínez’s No. 5 jersey. Kubalci previously wore No. 2. In addition to García and Rashford, Barcelona has five other players to register, including contract extensions. They now have only eight days to find a solution.

Barcelona Still Struggling with Registration Issues

However, according to Marca, Martínez’s departure will free up €8.4 million within Barcelona’s salary cap, but this will not be enough to register new signings Juan García and Marcus Rashford. Previous reports to the contrary indicated that while García’s salary would be paid, the €5 million in additional revenue from his transfer fee amortization would not. Because Barcelona’s salary cap was already exceeded, they could only use 60% of the savings or earnings.
