Everton Opens Negotiations with Manchester City to Sign Jack Grealish

Grealish has struggled to replicate his dazzling performances at Aston Villa, which once made him one of Europe’s most sought-after talents.

Since joining Guardiola’s City, his role has changed significantly, with the 29-year-old now primarily deployed on the left wing – a stark contrast to the freer, more central attacking position in which he excelled at Villa Park.

With an eye on being selected for Thomas Tuchel’s 2026 World Cup squad, the Birmingham-born striker is eager to rediscover his best form – likely at a new club – and Everton are keen to sign him.

According to Ornstein, the Toffees have “approached” Manchester City regarding a potential transfer for the England international to Hill Dickinson Stadium this summer.

Grealish currently earns £300,000 a week, a salary Everton struggles to match. As a result, the transfer expert indicates that the Merseyside club is proposing to sign him on loan this summer.

According to Ornstein, the deal is expected to be complex and far from certain, but transfer negotiations for the English player are ongoing.

Grealish to Everton

Grealish made 32 appearances in all competitions last season, contributing three goals and five assists. A slump in form saw him lose his place in the England squad and he remains uncapped under new Three Lions manager Thomas Tuchel, with his last appearance coming last October.

Given his contribution to Manchester City’s treble-winning campaign in 2022-23—he made 50 appearances and started every knockout round, including the Champions League final—consistent performances could help him rediscover his best form.

Playing in a more central, freer position, as he did at Villa Park, could be the key to unlocking his full potential.

If Grealish were to join Everton, David Moyes would undoubtedly welcome the opportunity to play him in his preferred attacking midfield position, although the complexities surrounding his salary and the broader financial package make a deal difficult to complete.

Everton will be hoping to have their best players available when they travel to newly promoted Leeds United on August 16th, as they look to get the new season off to a strong start.
