La Liga’s Two Giants Nominated for France Football’s Best Goalkeeper Award

France Football has announced the nominees for its award series, with the Ballon d’Or, the most prestigious individual accolade, naturally being the grand finale. Spanish football will play a prominent role in the ceremony.

Five players from Real Madrid and Barcelona have learned they will be vying for the Kopa Trophy, awarded to the best young player of the year. For the past four years, the award has been presented to stars from both teams. La Liga is also expected to contest the Yachin Trophy, given to the best goalkeeper.

Jan Oblak and Thibaut Courtois Both in the Qualifiers

Atletico Madrid legend Jan Oblak and Real Madrid icon Thibaut Courtois have both been nominated for the award, a familiar prospect for both. Courtois is the only goalkeeper in La Liga history to win the award in 2022, having led his team to the Champions League that season.

Both La Liga giants may miss out on significant mistakes

Emiliano Martínez has won the award for two consecutive years, but after winning it again in 2021, Gianluigi Donnarumma may once again be the favorite to win with Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League victory. Jan Oblak played well, but ultimately failed to help Atlético Madrid defeat Barcelona in La Liga and Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey, respectively. Courtois, on the other hand, gave Arsenal a five-goal lead in the subsequent rounds, while Real Madrid conceded 16 goals in this year’s El Clásico, despite Andrei Lunin being in goal for some of those matches.

Kata Kerr nominated for the Women’s Award

Meanwhile, Barcelona has also entered a goalkeeper in the running for the Yachiné Award, with goalkeeper Kata Kerr being a potential contender. She led Spain to the Champions League final and made several impressive saves as they secured silver at Euro 2025. However, with Ann-Katrin Berger and Hannah Hampton also contributing strong performances, she will join Chiamaca Nnadozi and Daphne van Domselaar in the shortlist.
