Manchester United “Contacted” Brighton Star Carlos Baleba

Since joining Brighton from Lille in 2023, Baleba has emerged as one of the most highly regarded young midfielders in the Premier League.

He made 77 appearances for Brighton, scoring four goals and providing two assists—all of which came during the 2024-25 season, when he made 40 appearances in all competitions.

Ruben Amorim is eager to add a dynamic player to his 3-4-3 formation to complement Bruno Fernandes or Kobe Mainu, and Baleba appears to be the ideal fit to thrive under the Portuguese manager’s system.

According to David Ornstein, the Red Devils have “contacted” Baleba through an intermediary to explore the possibility of signing the Cameroon international this summer.

The transfer expert stated that Brighton is reluctant to allow the 21-year-old to leave the club this summer despite Manchester United’s interest, and both parties are aware that the transfer may not work.

However, the Premier League giants remain enthusiastic about the young player and hope to learn about the potential of a deal in the coming days.

A Bold Acquisition

Manchester United’s summer transfer window is far from complete, with the current focus on strengthening their Old Trafford midfield.

So far, their signings have primarily focused on bolstering their attack, with Mateus Cunha and Bryan Mbemo already signed, and Benjamin Cesco potentially joining if all goes according to plan.

However, midfield remains a concern, particularly with a lack of a physical player—a gap Baleba could fill with his transformative impact.

The 21-year-old is a gifted defender, combining ample stamina and pace, composure on the ball, and exceptional passing ability. Sharing his tenacity and technical prowess, the Cameroonian is often compared to Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo.

Proven Premier League midfielders of Baleba’s caliber and age are rare. Although the transfer market may value him at more than £34 million, Manchester United would be wise to explore and pursue all possible avenues to bring him to Old Trafford this summer.
