Reporter Danny Rust recently reported that Manchester United is considering a move for Sporting Lisbon defender Zeno Debast. Reportedly, the Red Devils have identified the Belgian center-back as a target for next year.

Debast’s outstanding performance in Portuguese football

Debast had a solid season for Sporting CP, contributing a series of impressive defensive performances. The Belgian prodigy played 48 games for Sporting Lisbon last season, contributing two goals and four assists.

The 21-year-old proved himself to be one of Sporting’s best young center-backs last season. Therefore, it’s no surprise that Manchester United is planning a move for him in the future.

His current contract with Sporting Lisbon expires in the summer of 2029. Therefore, signing Debast on a low price next year will be a challenge for the Red Devils.

What will Debast add to Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim’s squad?

Debast is an excellent tackler, able to detect danger and recover the ball for his team inside his own half. He often defuses attacking pressure and can even build plays from the back.

The 1.91-meter-tall Belgian star is able to use his imposing physique to overpower opposing attackers in the air. However, if Manchester United successfully signs him this summer, only time will tell whether he can handle the high-intensity Premier League games.

We can expect Debast to add even more strength to Ruben Amorim’s defense. He has the potential to compete for a regular place in the Old Trafford first team in the coming years.

The 21-year-old Debast has the potential to be a future star in English football. Therefore, it makes sense for the Red Devils to attempt to sign him in January or at the end of the season. However, Amorim will need to give him some time to adjust to life in English football.
