Real Madrid Announces Five-Year Contract Extension for Rising Star

Gonzalo García has enjoyed a stellar few months at Real Madrid, and his impressive form has been rewarded by a new contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until the summer of 2030.
Real Madrid also confirmed Gonzalo’s new jersey number
Gonzalo has now officially been promoted to the first team and has been given a new jersey number. He was originally expected to become Real Madrid’s new number 9, but that position has fallen to Enderique Felipe, the young Spaniard inheriting the teenager’s previous number 16 shirt.
It will be interesting to see how Gonzalo performs in his first full season with the Real Madrid first team. Given his performances at the Club World Cup, he is destined for a prominent role, although he will fall behind Kylian Mbappé – and possibly even Enderrick Felipe – in the forward pecking order.
In the 2024-25 domestic season, despite scoring 25 goals for Castilla in the First Division, he was largely ignored by then-manager Carlo Ancelotti. While he did score for the first team in the Copa del Rey quarter-final win over Leganes, it wasn’t enough to secure a permanent promotion.
However, earlier this summer, Xabi Alonso invited him to the Club World Cup—a wise decision. Gonzalo scored four goals in the United States as Real Madrid reached the semi-finals, where they were defeated by European champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite this, Gonzalo continued to thrive, and now he’s getting his due. According to an official Real Madrid statement, he has signed a new five-year contract with the club, confirming that the 21-year-old will remain in Xabi Alonso’s squad for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
“Real Madrid CF and Gonzalo García have agreed to extend the player’s contract, which will be tied to the club for the next five seasons, until June 30, 2030. Gonzalo will now be a member of the Real Madrid first team.”
