Real Madrid Announces Sale of 23-Year-Old Forward to Brazilian Club

Real Madrid has been eyeing player transfers in recent weeks, and with the confirmed departure of Reinier Jesus, they have added another player to their roster.
Last month, reports suggested Real Madrid were considering terminating Reinier’s contract, but he has, in fact, been sold to Brazilian side Atlético Mineiro, a move the club has officially confirmed.
“Real Madrid and Atlético Mineiro have reached an agreement on the transfer of our player Reinier. Real Madrid would like to express our gratitude and love for his many years of service to the club and wish him and his family the best in this new phase of his life.”
Reinier Failed to Achieve Any Success During Five Years
He subsequently had loan spells at Girona, Frosinone, and Granada, but he struggled to maintain consistent performances. This meant his time at Real Madrid was numbered—and now, it seems, it’s over.
He’s only 23, so he still has time to rebuild his career—a move back to his home country would be easier. A return to Europe might be an option in the future, but for now, he’s focused on making a difference at his new club.
Reinier’s departure allows Real Madrid to clear a larger wage bill, but it has little impact on the first-team situation. If Xabi Alonso wants to add another player to his squad, he’ll need to sell existing players first.
High hopes were placed on Reinier after his transfer from Flamengo in January 2020. He spent his first six months in the Spanish capital with Castilla, but failed to make a positive impact. He also spent two years on loan at Borussia Dortmund, where he struggled.
