Real Madrid star David Alaba has been among the players linked with a possible move away from the club over the past few months, with questions surrounding the Austrian’s role under Xabi Alonso. The experienced defender has returned to action after undergoing his third surgery in two years.

Alaba was a regular starter under Carlo Ancelotti before suffering a serious cruciate ligament injury and requiring further surgery. Four months after his return, Alaba suffered another knee injury and underwent surgery in April. Real Madrid appears to be placing the club’s future in the hands of Eder Militao and Djibril Huyssen, who have reportedly offered to terminate Alaba’s contract this summer. Alaba has also been rumored to have received multiple offers.

David Alaba Responds to Transfer Rumors

The 33-year-old has been linked with moves to Turkey and Serie A in recent weeks, but ahead of Austria’s match against Cyprus, Alaba issued a firm response to the speculation.

“I’ve been playing football for a long time, and rumors are part of the business. Fortunately, I don’t dwell on them for too long, and I often laugh because they’re not true; they’re all lies.” – AS.

Alaba on Fitness – “I feel good now”

Alaba has yet to make a single appearance under Xabi Alonso, and there are questions about his ability to compete for a starting spot this season. However, he seems confident in his fitness.

“I feel good now; I’ve made a lot of progress recently. I feel like I can play the full 90 minutes for the national team, although I don’t know if that’s possible. We’ll see how I feel in the next games. My goal is to play and stay in shape.”

On Saturday night, he started for Austria, playing 70 minutes as they beat Cyprus 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier. It was his first start since April.
